“Matthew Jacobs is a pleasure to work with, and a very talented writer ...” George Lucas.
Are you thinking about (or in the process of) writing either a short, a feature film, web-series or a TV show? If so, getting focused help from an established teacher and working filmmaker is definitely the way to go! Arrange a FREE 45 minute consultation with Matthew Jacobs (IMDb) to work out what might be the best course of action to help you achieve your goals for the budget you have.
Contact him at [email protected] and book your free consult now. Matthew has been working for major networks and studios for over 30 years, and since 2008 he has also been teaching at major universities in the United States. He currently lives in Los Feliz in Los Angeles.
THE PROCESS
The process is flexible and modular, so it can be tailored directly to your needs through a combination of one-on-one consultations in person (or online) and maybe selected intense workshops with others. As an established multi-hyphenate Matthew understands the challenges of writing if you are an actor, director, producer or come from another discipline altogether. Every writer has different needs and the trick is to find help that’s right for you!
ONE-ON-ONE CONSULTATION
Either online or in person. This is the most cost-effective in the long run. In the first FREE 45 minute consult we work out what will work best for you. One-on-one costs $100 an hour, plus a reading fee of between $110 and $210 for scripts or documents depending upon length. There are also reductions available if you book multiple sessions, which can be discussed during the free introductory consultation.
Compare this to any other reading and consulting service and you will see how competitive this is. The philosophy here is that you come back. Matthew stays with you until you get the project where you need it to be.
WORKSHOPS
Each workshop is three or four hours long depending on the subject. They cost you $100 each and work as a stand-alone event or link to other workshops, depending on your needs. You are not just being lectured to or told war stories, you learn by doing it in class, and you also walk away with a specially written guide for each topic that is yours to keep for future reference.
TESTIMONIALS
“Matthew Jacobs is a pleasure to work with, and a very talented writer ...” George Lucas
"I have collaborated with Matthew for nearly thirty years on different projects and can vouch that he has a profound understanding of the complex and multifaceted equation that is filmmaking. He is also a very funny and empathetic person who can always see the positive way forward." Bernard Rose - director (Paperhouse, Candyman, Immortal Beloved, Boxing Day, Traveling Light)
"Having worked one-on-one with Matthew Jacobs in a unique arrangement like the one he offers here, I can comfortably say that an investment in this type of training is money better spent than any other film training that I'm aware of." Dylan Glockler - cinematographer (Lovelace Doc 2013)
"I was fortunate to have Matthew as a teacher. He was quick to identify the problems I would run into with my style of writing and directing, and quick to offer advice that I still carry with me. I watched him work similarly with other young filmmakers -- not imposing a style upon them, but helping them find the best incarnation of their own voices. And of course, most film schools won't teach you the kind of scrappy, make-it-happen filmmaking that Matthew relishes." Molly Green - writer/director (Forev, 911 Lone Star 2021-24)
"Matthew is a doer and inspires the people around him. He has a roster of past students who’ve shown success as filmmakers by getting their films into festivals, finding representation, and winning awards. Whatever your end goal may be, Matthew will help you achieve it." Vanessa Yuille - editor and director (An American Contradiction 2014, Doctor Who Am I, 2023)
