Saw this last night. If you get the chance, it's one of the best movies I've seen in quite a while.

This just came out over here, and I agree. After about five months of really quite atrocious movies in the cinema - the the point that, for the first time in my adult life, I hadn't been to the cinema in over four weeks - this was a delight. The opening with the mammograms was brilliant and original, then I got worried. The next fifteen minutes after that are quite alienating for a Brit audience. You think: Oh no, not ANOTHER movie about whining self indulgent New Yorkers (Noah Baumbach take note). But then it becomes a funny, subtle, layered intelligent film about real, contradictory, conflicted people. Really quite superb. As an addendum to this, Matt, check out a Brit comedy show - Harry and Paul. You may not like the show overall (I loved it, but definitely not to everyone's taste), but there's a sequence of sketches in it called: 'I saw You Coming' by Harry Enfield. In it, Harry plays a slick Islington sheister who runs an 'antique' shop that sells 60s and 70s tat to idiots for thousands of pounds. It's very funny, and Enfield must have been amused when he saw Please Give. I imagine if you enter 'I Saw You Coming - Harry Enfield' it should come up on You Tube.

Sorry, I meant to say as well, that if you liked Please Give then check out the Savages - if you haven't already seen it. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Laura Linney trying to care for their estranged and disagreeable elderly father. Terrific film.

Great recommendations there Martin. Yes I saw Savages quite some time ago and enjoyed it as well. Yes, it's a relief to see something good. There's a film called Cyrus (also with Keener) that's just coming out here. Really want to see that too. Thanks for posting!
