DARKNESS FROM THE TREES

A rare opportunity to see my film school graduation film in its full 22 minutes!  (Be patient!)  A blind piano tuner lives alone deep in the country until a missed appointment leads to a visitation from death itself. We only see what he feels ... Originally shot in 16mm, this is however transferred from a bad 1980s VHS so please excuse the terrible quality of the image. San Francisco International Film Festival (1981)

DOCTOR WHO AM I

This was the call-to-action for the DOCTOR WHO AM I indiegogo campaign. We reached our target and created a small ground swell within the DW fan base. Now we are in the thick of editing and still hope to have the film finished by the end of 2016. But we only actually stopped principal photography in February of this year, so fingers crossed!

Frankenstein World Premiere

Bernard Rose's Frankenstein starring Xavier Samuel, Carrie Anne Moss and Danny Huston (and yours truly in the Igor-equivalent role) is getting it's world premiere in competition at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival where we won with Paperhouse back in the 80s ... It's a very important festival for it's genre. So excited!  If you're passing it'll be on the 12th of April ...  http://www.bifff.net/festival/movie/frankenstein/

Doctor Who Am I

Doctor Who Am I  is an intimate independent documentary portrait of the American fan told from my point-of-view as I go to my first fan convention some 20 years after writing and co-producing the 1996 Universal/Fox/BBC Doctor Who TV Movie starring Paul McGann.

Hopefully it will be a funny tale of identity, regeneration and redemption - not just about myself, but about the characters we followed through these four days. However, as we all know, most documentaries are made in the cutting room. So who knows what we'll get exactly?

This time I'm co-directing and editing with Vanessa Yuille and again the film is photographed by Dylan Glockler, Basically the same team that made Your Good Friend (2014) and Bar America (2015). We also have the support and collaboration of Shaun Lyon (the director of Gallifrey One), actor-singer Daphne Ashbrook (the Eighth Doctor’s American companion) and other leaders of the Doctor Who fan universe. Next year is the 20th anniversary of the TV Movie, so we're moving fast and already we have strong interest out there from distributors and internetworks.

2015 ... Exciting times!

Video On Demand is going through a very exciting phase these days, especially when you look at the commercially successful VOD distribution of The Interview and the success of Amazon's Transparent , Netflix's House Of Cards and Orange Is The New Black .  I think pretty soon theatrical outings for many feature films will come AFTER they have been marketed AND distributed online first. Cinemas might become the theatrical experience you choose after seeing the film online first. This will be hard for the industry to truly get it's head around because it means a gradual reversal in the primary distribution process, but at the end of the day it will improve the theatrical experience. I'm not alone in thinking this ... What do you think?

It's been way too long since I've posted here. Much has happened. BAR AMERICA won an audience award at the Napa Valley Film Festival. Dustin Ingram and Chris Candy joined us for the screenings there and a good time was had by all. Also I went to the Catalina Film Festival with Chris, the beautiful Michele Boyd and Vanessa Yuille. I'm hoping 2015 brings a distribution deal for the producers!

YOUR GOOD FRIEND is now available at good video-on-demand platforms (Amazon, Hulu, Vimeo, Cinecliq, Indie Reign and more are joining the fray) and will soon be coming out on DVD via Amazon. We have next to no budget for promotion. It cost nearly all we raised on the Indiegogo campaign just to get in out there with all the deliverables. It's such a strange little film it I never even bothered chasing conventional distributors, hence the crowd funding for distribution. Amazingly, even to me, it's already starting to pick up numbers just through word-of-mouth. The distributors are Kinonation.

Gearing up for Catalina Film Festival this week, end the Napa Valley Film Festival in November. Fingers crossed our sales agents Circus Road Films file a distributor for our little movie before the year is out ....

Good time was had by all at the Marin Jewish Community Center screening of Your Good Friend. Gary Gach (who plays Artie on my right), Dylan Glockler (who shot the film - tell guy on my left) and Philip Chidel (exec producer on the far right) came along too!

Just launched ... Early days as we head out on the adventure to reach our audience. Go like the Facebok Page ... And here's one of the featured songs from the soundrtack. It's set in a bar, it's a show, there's a jukebox, the movies has quite a few Bay Area, New York, LA and even Texas bands and soloists featured...  Here's Megan Keely's song for the film. (We didn't do the video, very San Francisco sweet hipster, but it works) Enjoy!
