Brenda Chapman (co-director, co-screenplay and story) seems to be the force behind this ... I may be wrong but I think this is the first Pixar feature film to be directed and originated by a woman, and in my opinion it is truly wonderful. It sustained excellence right the way through the film, something that most of the other Pixar pieces didn't quite achieve in my opinion. Call me a sloppy date, but I dehydrated behind my 3D specs ... Even my T-shirt was wet when I left the theatre! And I'm not a mother or a daughter which is where this movie lives thematically.

Jean Binta Breeze, who wrote "Hallelujah Anyhow" the first BBC TV feature I directed, is not only a great screenwriter whose work got us into Sundance in 1992 and made the centerpiece feature at the London Film Festival, but she is even better known as a brilliant poet. Her work is well worth tracking down. I've just heard she has been awarded an MBE in the Queens Birthday Honours this year. Congratulations to Jean for that and all the other honours she has received. Here she is reading her work ...

My father Anthony Jacobs .... We all have tales to tell about our parents, and they are there in most of what we do. I often include my father in my work wether he likes it or not.  Here he is, guerilla filmmaking with us on the Channel Islands while on a wild vacation many years ago.
